Centenary awards: Northern govs salute past leaders

Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has paid tribute to past Heads of State and Presidents who would be honoured as outstanding promoters of unity and national development by President Goodluck Jonathan, who described them as “true sons of the nation’s founding fathers.”

Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger state, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, said from General Gowon through General Babangida to ex-President Yar’Adua, the former leaders impacted positively on their chosen professions and went on to preside over Africa’s most influential nation- because of their rare vision and good leadership.

“If our past leaders had not been selfless and proactive, Nigeria would not have attained the height it has reached, and Nigerians would have been the worse for it,” he said a statement issued by his spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo.
The Forum said it was no longer news that our past leaders rose through the ranks to reach the highest echelon of their professions by sheer hard work, perseverance and honesty.

It said the main lesson to be learnt from the lives and times of our past leaders was for Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of hard work, honesty, selflessness and the fear of God.
