Centre seeks funding for cancer care

The Board chairman, Project Pink Blue, Health and Psychological Trust Centre, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) Prof Peter Onyekwere Ebigbo, has called for the urgent need for sustainable funding for cancer care and treatment in Nigeria.
Prof Ebigbo, while speaking at the just concluded World Cancer Day 2018, commemoration and symposium with theme “Sustainable funding for cancer care and Treatment in Nigeria” stated that we need to explore better strategies.
He said this year’s symposium is another great year to take bigger responsibilities, make greater impact and take initiatives to support federal government’s policies against cancer and to also work with the federal ministry of health to reduce the burden of cancer in Nigeria.
Also, the National Coordinator, National Control Programme (NCCP), Dr David Atuwo, called for commitments from everybody and stakeholders, adding that the theme : “We can I can” is aimed at reducing the incidences of cancer by 25% by the year 2022.
“The task ahead of all of us is huge. We have not only to halt incidence but to control it. We are embarking on capital intensive primary projects and we have outlined our work plan and we assure you that we will keep the ground rolling in execute our plans,” he said.
