Abuja
National Center for Women Development (NCWD) has begun a five-day training on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for a total of 50 participants comprising blind women and female entrepreneurs across various organisations in the country.
Its Director-General, Barrister Mary Ekpere-Eta, during the opening ceremony held at the information and communication technology department of the centre in Abuja, said the training “will improve on their practice and knowledge of technology.”
Ekpere-Eta said the ICT training for the blind was designed to exposed them to the “various ways ICT can help them become self-reliant and productive.”
She added that the training for female entrepreneurs was designed to enable them project life cycles, including the use of software projects management application to manage project’s task and schedules.
“It is important to note that Visually Impaired Persons have the same rights and opportunities, as well as the same obligations, as everyone else in the society.
“ICT, as a strategic option, has the capacity to enable PVIs take advantage of the educational systems and job opportunities available in the country, be self-reliant and to participate actively in the economy development of the country,” she said.
According to the DG, any entrepreneur who hopes to create a sustainable business out of an idea will realise that project management practice is one of the most significant skills to be mastered.
“A total of 50 participants from various organisations across the country have been selected for this training. Each of the participants will be given a Laptop computer to enable them practice what they have been taught and a Stipend for transportation will also be given at the end of the program.
