Centre trains parents with autism children

The Ize Therapy and Vocational Centre has trained several parents with autism children as part of programmes to mark the 2018 World Autism Awareness Day.
The World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) is set aside to spotlight the hurdles that people with autism and others living with autism face every day in the society.
Founder of the vocational centre, Miss Aisha Ize Jatto, said her organisation engaged in the exercise as part of its goal agenda to help and support the parents and children with autism in order to cope with the challenges of care and independence.
“I want the parents to bring their children to our centre and let’s help them train and support them.
By bringing them, they will behelping the child and themselves as parents or guardians,” she said.
“This will also help us to create awareness that children and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are not burden but people with great potentials that can grow to become great in the society,” she added.
Also, the coordinator of the centre, Mrs. Mildred Abimbola, tutored theparents present on various interventions of the centre to make life easy for children with autism in the centre.
She said: “Today we are having free assessment and therapy day to ark the 2018 world autism day, because today is set aside tocelebrate children with autism.
Autism is a neurology challenge that has to do with brain.
“And there are signs you see in children that shows that they have such challenge.
Some may have speech impediment, physical challenge, and their self care is poor but they are wonderful children, very organised.
“What we are doing here today is bringing in professionals and specialists, speech therapists, doctors, clinical psychologists, penaltherapists, and skill acquisition professionals to access them and see how we can make their lives better,” she explained.
