Centre urges Kaduna govt to probe death of 11- year-old pupil

The Centre for Civic Education and Human Right (CCEHR) has called on the Kaduna state government to investigate the unfortunate death of Musa Umaru, a class 4 pupil of Umar Isa Primary School, Dembo, Zaria local government area, who died as a result building collapse.

Executive Director of the centre, Mallam Ibrahim Mohammed Zikirillah made the call at a radio interactive town hall meeting on Social Mobilization, Accountability and Transparency in the implementation of Universal Basic Education Fund (UBEF) held in Zaria, Monday.

He said the deceased lost his life when one of the pillars of the class calved in.

 Mallam Zikirillah stated that the class which was constructed in 2013 was poorly constructed by the contractor. He said the contractor must be held responsible for Umar’s death.

He said, “We must remember that government devotes a certain portion of public funds to basic foundational education. The state should ensure that these resources are used effectively and efficiently for the realisation of the goal of quality education in our community. 

“As stakeholders in our various communities, we are to show commitments in addressing those problems through close interaction with our organization and SBMC.

“These problems can be properly documented so that they would be brought to the attention of the authorities.”
