Champions league final: Can Liverpool upstage Real Madrid at Kiev?

After a scintillating UEFA Champions league (UCL) semi final matches that saw Liverpool Football Club overcome a resilient AS Roma on 7-6 aggregate, they will face a determined Real Madrid side (gunning for third successive UCL titles) that won 4-3 against Bayern Munich to qualify for the final, set to be decided on May 27 in Kiev, capital of Ukraine. PAUL OKAH relays predictions from Nigerians.

Madrid will overcome Liverpool

From time immemorial, Real Madrid have considered the Champions League as their personal property and usually pull all the stops to make sure they win it whenever possible. This season, however, Real Madrid’s performance has not been convincing.

They were knocked out of Copa Del Rey by an insignificant club like Leganes and have nothing else to play for in La Liga except for pride. As a result, they have channelled all their energy towards winning the Champions League and I have no doubt that they will win against Liverpool in Kiev.

Difficult game at Kiev

Liverpool have proven that they can overcome difficult teams with what they did against Man City in the quarter-final.

So they may likely win against Real Madrid, I would have given them a straight win, but I was not impressed with their performance against Roma in the semi final.

They allowed Roma to come from behind to beat them in the second leg and would have lost on aggregate had the referee allowed the match to go on beyond the added time.

Record breaking time for Liverpool, Madrid

I’m not sure which team will between Madrid and Liverpool at the end of regulation time on 27th May, but I am sure it is going to be a difficult game for the two teams.

Madrid may break another record by winning it for the third time, but they will have to be at their best to beat a free scoring Liverpool side. Many Liverpool players are dangerous and may win the match too, but it is 90 minutes that will determine who lifts the trophy. Whichever it goes, record is bound to be broken in Kiev.

Ronaldo’s inactivity, awaiting doomsday for Real
It will be difficult for Real Madrid to win this year’s Champions League, due to the fact that they have not been convincing this season. The departure of key players like Pepe, Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez have been difficult for Real Madrid to replace, and so, they are struggling.

They have been relying too much on Ronaldo to produce goals for them and this has spelt doom for the club anytime Ronaldo is not scoring in a match.

Better team ‘ll emerge victorious

Real Madrid have been winning the Champions League for the past few years and it’s only fair that Liverpool should win it this time around. Madrid would be creating quite a record under Zinedine Zidane if they win it for a record third time.

I’m neither a Liverpool nor Madrid fan, but I believe that the two teams have good players that can win the cup. Mohammed Salah has been impressive for Liverpool this season, just as Ronaldo is the highest goal-scorer in the Champions League this season, so their teams will be looking up to them. Moreover, it is going to be a game of tactics between Klopp and Zizou, so let the better team win.
