Charcoal sellers’ union condemns attack on Bauchi court judge

Charcoal Sellers Association of Nigeria has condemned the recent physical attack on the officials of the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) and its mobile court judge allegedly perpetrated by some charcoal sellers at Zaranda town of Toro local government of the state.

The association in a press release signed by its Bauchi state chairman Ibrahim Mai Samira and Secretary Umar Usman said the perpetrators of the attack “are not bonafide members of the association.

“The said youth not being our members nor did they carried out the abhorrent conduct at the behest of anybody that legitimately has any connection with our humble selves or our sphere of business.

“We declare our total support to the efforts by the security agencies along with other concerned authorities in seeing to it that all those behind the unfortunate incident are brought to justice,” they said.

The association said it has already conveyed its position to the chief judge of the state Justice Rabi Talatu Umar wherein they deeply regretted what happened and pledged to cooperate fully with the authorities in ensuring that the culprits are brought to book.

They therefore craved for the full understanding of the authorities especially security agencies handling the matter to check the situation where ‘innocent persons within and outside the association were arrested, harrassed over the incident in which they are not involved.

“As provided by law, it is our position only those who are actually involved with respect to the incident should be targetted for legal action. Finally, we shall continue to remain legal, responsible, upright and cooperative in the cause of carrying out our legitimate business as we have been doing within and outside Bauchi State for over 20 years,” they stated.
