Cheating: Court remands bizman pending bail hearing

An Abuja Magistrates’ Court yesterday ordered a 40-year-old businessman, Azubike Joshua, to be remanded in prison custody, pending hearing of a written bail application.
Joshua, who resides in Gwagwalada, FCT, in Abuja, is charged with absconding with N1 million belonging to his friend.
The Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Iyana, gave the order after refusing an oral application for bail by the accused’s counsel, Mr Christopher Anyaka.

Iyana adjourned the matter until May 7.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Musa Abdulahi, told the court that Awotunde Olusanmi of Plot 902, Dawaki Extension, Gwarimpa, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused at the Utako Police Station on April 7.
Abdulahi said sometime in October 2013, the accused borrowed N1 million from the complainant to enable him to change the tyres of his truck.

He said Joshua and the complainant had an understanding that he would give him the truck to use for a while pending when he gets the money to pay back.
The prosecutor said the accused, however, returned two days later and collected the truck from the complainant with a promise to return his money the next day but absconded.
He added that the offence contravened the provision of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence. (NAN)
