Chess: 14 players for African Games trials in Lagos

The Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF) has said that 14 players would feature in the chess event at the Africa Games trials in Lagos.

The NCF Media Officer, Mr Babatunde Ogunsiku, who made the disclosure in an interview with in Lagos on Wednesday, said the athletes were being invited based on their Rapid Ratings.

Ogunsiku said that the trials were billed to hold between June 27 and June 28 at the Media Center of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, at 9 a.m. daily.

He said that the male and female categories had six invitees and two reserves each.

Ogunsiku gave the players names for the male category and their ratings as IM Adu Oladapo 2293, FM Osunfuyi Abimbola 2289, FM Oragwu Chukwunonso 2287, IM Anwuli Daniel 2282, IM Olape Bunmi 2239 and FM Abdulrahman Abdulraheem 2235.

He said that the two reserves were Dorungbe Ademola 2228 and Balogun Oluwafemi 2190.

In the female category are Pelomo Jessica 1879, Ogbiyoyo Perpetual 1829, Ofowino Toritsemuwa 1827, Enomah Emmanuella Trust 1737, Samson Peace 1730 and Sulaiman Azumi Ayisha 1726, adding that the reserves are Enarevba Tega Mandy 1689 and Aramude Sandra 1673.

The media officer said that top six invited players for both male and female have confirmed their participation and the reserve would sit it out.

He explained that the six players would fight it out on board for the five slots that would go into camp for the next one month plus, before the Games.

Ogunsiku said that they would play themselves with white and black to get the top players going into camp, while one individual is dropped for finishing last on the log.
