Children call on Gombe to sign Child Right Act

The Gombe state Government has been called upon to put enabling law in the state and start the process of domesticating the Child Right Act in the state.

The call was made by the Gombe state children parliament during a Press Conference at the State Assembly on the children’s day.

The parliament through its speaker Umar Faruk Abdullahi said the law will protect and safeguard children against rape and other forms of abuse currently going on in the state.

The parliament also commended the state government for creating enabling environment and giving priority to education, in the state.

They also outlined some demand to the government that include putting more investment in nutrition to reduce the rate of malnutrition, preventing parents from giving under age children in marriage, and allow them to complete their education, provide more learning aids and improve libraries among others. 

Faruk also call on students to be serious with their studies and be obedient to their parents and teachers.

Earlier while delivering the address of the president Muhammadu Buhari, at Pantami Stadium, the acting permanent secretary ministry of women affaires Alhaji Sulaiman Doho, said at the federal level priority actions in violence against children have been developed to guide ministries, agencies and departments to respond to violence against children.

He added that the Buhari administration is very concerned about the impact of drug abuse and substance abuse.
