Children’s Day: ESLF holds literacy competition despite COVID-19

Wife of the Benue state governor,  Dr. Eunice Ortom, under her pet project, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation, (ESLF), Tuesday organised a literacy competition for Benue children on Radio Benue.

The programme is the 5th annual literacy project, and part of activities to mark the 2020 Children’s Day celebration.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the radio program, Mrs.Ortom, said the Benue Children’s Day literary project competition was created to constantly and consistently promote reading culture among Benue children.

She statted further that the theme of the programme, “Chats with Children on Literacy Activities During the COVID-19 Lockdown, Hygiene Behavior and Quiz”, was apt considering the coronavirus pandemic which is currently ravaging the entire world, including Nigeria.

She said, it was regrettable that this year’s children day and the ESLF 5th annual literacy project would not be gathering the children due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She however said despite the challenge, the situation  has actually strengthened the bond between children and parents because of their long stay at home.

She further enjoined the children to ensure that when school finally resume, they take their studies very seriously stressing that even as they stay at home, they should  imbibe a culture of reading good books in order to develop and build skills that can add value to their lives.

“I can assure that I will continue to use my pet project to promote girl child education and literacy among youths of the state.

“The ESLF annual literacy project is specifically designed as a platform to promote education and welfare of children.

“Our activities are all involving and open to all. We normally ensure that our program cut across the three zones of the state and  it is expected that in the next years to come, every child in the state will be aware of ESLF and may be ready to participate in all its activities,” she stated.
