China partners Yabatech on vocational education

Chinese Polytechnic, Guangzhou Panyu, in partnership with a Chinese construction company based in Nigeria, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, (CCEC) has offered to provide vocational and technical education to Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) in the area of rail and road transport development.
A release signed by the school’s media, media relations officer Felix Alade reveals that China Polytechnic is the fore-runner of Yaba College of Technology which noted for providing technical education in Nigeria.
“China and Nigeria have a long standing socio- economic relationship and it is expected that CCEC will take advantage of this relationship by keying into Nigeria’s transportation development via rail transportation,” Guangzhou Panyu Polytechnic Vice President Liu Jiahuan said.
Jiahuan said the proposed technical assistance is a corporate social responsibility to Nigerians, noting that Nigeria’s achievements in the area of technical education were accomplished through the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
“Through the railway corporation, we know that YABATECH, the cradle of higher learning is one of the best institutions in Nigeria and as a first class polytechnic, we are desirable to cooperate with her in the field of technical and vocational training”.
The two institutions will cooperate and share academic researches in mechanical, civil, architecture and construction engineering technology.
In attendance was the management team of Yabatech led by the rector, Engr.
Obafemi Omokungbe who was represented by the deputy rector (academics), Dr.
Taye Oyelola.
Guangzhou Panyu Polytechnic was led by its vice president and a representative of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Lagos District Manager, Engr.
Jerey Oche.
Meanwhile, the sport team of Yabatech has performed extraordinarily at the just concluded 19th National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Nigerian Polytechnic Senior Staff Games (NIPOSSGA) hosted by Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Enugu.
The bi-annual Nigerian Polytechnic sport competition held between April 19th and 28th 2018.
A total of 38 polytechnics keenly contested for medals.
Yabatech contingent was led by the coach of the institution and PRO of NIPOSSGA, Mr.
Yamala Frederick.
The college participated in 17 games and won 9 medals.
