Chinese govt offers scholarships to 47 ABU students

The Chinese Government has awarded scholarships to 47 students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
Our correspondent reports that students were selected from various departments of the Institution based on their academic performance.
Speaking at the presentation of the scholarship ceremony held at the Assembly Hall of the Institution, yesterday, the Ambassador, Peoples Republic of China to Nigeria, Mr. Zhou Pingjian, said the scholarship was to encourage the students whom he described as “outstanding students.”
Pingjian said the bilateral or trade relationship between Nigeria and China had been cordial, adding that the relationship was yielding fruitful result.
According to him, “China is the largest economy in Asia and Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa.”
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, said the university and Nigeria were benefiting “immensely from China in several ways like nuclear projects and many others.”
“ABU is a mini-Nigeria because every tribe in the country is represented in the University,” he said.
Garba described China as “a friendly developing economy.”
“China has gone far in all aspect of life, particularly in technology; in fact, it has dominated all markets; there is no house you will not see products from China.”
