Cholera: NGO partners youth in cleaning community

The Youth for Peace Development and Empowerment Foundation, with support from Northeast Regional Initiatives (NERI) yesterday engaged 150 youths in Jiddari Polo, Maiduguriso in community clean-up exercise to prevent outbreak of cholera disease ravaging some states across the country.
In a chat in Damaturu, the Executive Director of the NGO, Aminu Haruna, said “the exercise is aimed at empowering the vulnerable youth with better alternative to violent extremism influences and build their resilience to its appeal through active community development.” Speaking earlier, the NERI Community Facilitator, Umar Abdulkadir, said the clean up activity was given birth to by another project implemented in Polo Jiddari which identifies level of youth vulnerability to violent extremism due to high rate of unemployment and lack of business opportunity.
He urged the youths to save money for their daily services to build themselves financially and morally.
A community leader in the area, Ustaz Ahmed, while commending the AFRYDEV and NERI, called on the youths to embrace cleanness which he said is next to Godliness.
