Christmas: Prices of food items go up in Kebbi

Ahead of Christmas celebrations, in kebbi state, prices of food items are on the roof top in major markets and stores in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.

Market survey conducted by Blueprint Tuesday showed that at Birnin Kebbi central market, a bag of perboiled rice had a slight increase from N23,000 to N23,300.

A bottle of vegetable and palm oil has also increased from N450.00 to N550.00 while ingredients like tomatoes, pepper and spices still maintained their prices depending on the sizes of measurement. But onion has gone beyond the reach of majority of buyers as one single ball was sold at N70.

Some buyers were seen making bulk purchases of some necessary items needed for the celebration, especially, non perishable items like cooking oil, maggi cubes, spices, yam and exotics, ahead of the festivities.

Speaking to Blueprint, Mr. Yohanna Jatau, a police officer, said unlike previous years, 2020 has been characterised by so many calamities that only God can salvage the situation. He added that coronavirus has caused a lot of damage to the economy.
