Chukwu assumes duty as army spokesperson

Brig.-Gen. Texas Jude Chukwu yesterday formerly took over the command of the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR).
Chukwu took over from Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka Usman who has since proceeded to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPS) Kuru, Plateau state, as a member of Course 40.
Speaking during the hand-over ceremonies at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, Usman said the DAPR had live up to its responsibilities of publicising activities of the Nigerian Army, as well as ensuring positive public opinion.
He said: “the Directorate has recorded some modest achievements all geared towards repositioning the Directorate to accomplish the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, which is ‘to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional role.’
“In conformity with the evolving trend in Information and Communication Technology, efforts were made towards digitalising military Public Relations practice, to reposition the Directorate in supporting the Nigerian Army in its determination of being the professional body that is responsive in the discharge of its constitutional role.
“We effectively partnered with our allies the conventional media as well as emerging new media by establishment of Facebook, Youtube and Twitter accounts that facilitate the dissemination of information on the Nigerian Army activities, thus interacting with general public.”
In his remarks, the new army spokesperson, said the out-gone spokesperson had done a lot in gaining public support for the Nigerian Army.
Chukwu assured that he would build on the successes recorded by the out-gone Director, and would available to respond to inquiries from journalists at all times.
