Chukwu was coasting to victory, party chair Agbo insists

Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Enugu state, Barrister Casmir Agbo, has said the slain Enugu East Senatorial candidate, Oyibo Chukwu, was coasting to victory before he was cut down.

Addressing newsmen at the LP secretariat at Chime Avenue, Enugu, on Friday, Agbo said Chukwu looked good to win and that his opponents knew it.

“We thank INEC for cancelling the Senatorial election for Enugu East Senatorial Zone. We have the people. We had gone from ward to ward. The man had confidence that he would win. Other candidates knew that he was going to win. We have the people before us,” he said.

He, however, thumbed down Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for “being nonchalant about the killing of Oyibo Chukwu because he is yet to issue any statement to that regard as the chief security officer of the state.”

“The state government has to protect the people and their property. I don’t see why Ugwuanyi has not made any statement concerning the gruesome murder of the late Senatorial candidate of the Labour Party. The governor has to come out to say that these killings should stop. Oyibo Chukwu did not deserve to die,” he said.

On the allegation that the murder was masterminded by IPOB/ESN, Agbo said the police were fast to run into conclusions, adding that they should have made thorough investigations to fish out the killers.

Agbo said despite the killing of Oyibo Chukwu, there was no cause for alarm because they were doing everything to shield themselves while banking on divine protection.
