CIS trains stockbrokers on technical analysis of investments

The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has concluded arrangements to train stockbrokers on the technical analysis of capital market asset classes as part of its capacity building policy to enhance its members’ global competitiveness.

The training, under the institute’s Continuing Professional Development  (CPD) programme is a compulsory requirement for all stockbrokers in order to upscale their skills and competencies.

Participants will be exposed to the theme titled “ Understanding the Dynamics of Technical Analysis for Capital Market Investment “. The training is also designed to provide thorough grounding in Technical Analysis for various categories of investment Professionals, Traders and Investment managers of all asset classes. 

A statement from the Institute indicates that the training covers the essentials of technical analysis from a purely short-term timing perspective to longer-term analysis and it is intended to enable participants apply Technical Analysis to the markets they cover.

The objectives of the training include 

equipping the participants with technical skills necessary for timely trading decisions and providing them with proven tools for technical analysis. 

According to the statement participants ” shall gain an understanding of technical analysis and its application to stock monitoring . This will enable them to appreciate how analysis of price trends and momentum assist a trader or investor in understanding the attributes specific to an individual stock. 

“ Technical analysis shall provide personality of the stock as every stock acts  differently. Participants shall be exposed to basic psychology of profitable trading. They will be exposed to technical understanding and interpreting of indicators, trend analysis, trade timing, graphical representation of points and sound Knowledge of technical analysis among others”.

Market observers believe that some of the reforms undertaken by Regulators in the Capital Market are aimed at enhancing liquidity. According to them, increased liquidity is accompanied by increased volatility which affords Investors and Traders with technical minds the opportunity to make large profits.

The Institute’s Head of Training, Mr Chukwudi Nga explained that the training was not only targeted at Stockbrokers, but other operators in the financial market including, Investment Analysts, Fund Managers, Investment Advisers Private and Institutional Investors and  Stock Traders .
