Citizen club empowers residents to promote peace

No fewer than 72 residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were yesterday empowered by the Citizens Club of Nigeria to promote peace in the territory.
The residents, drawn from all council areas, were taught on the need to promote peace in their immediate community, thereafter indicted as champion into the Club.

Addressing the new inductees at the event, former Special Assistant to President Jonathan on Technical Matters and the Guardian of the Club, Mr. Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, said the inductees were expected to go back to their local areas to replicate what they had learnt.

According to him, the Club in future will do everything possible to give more empowerment in form loans and other benefits to the members, so that they can help themselves and other people around them.
Nwankpo said the “Club does not have any affiliation with any political party,” adding that the “Club is a citizen-based organisation which encourages citizens not to sell their votes in 2015.”
In his remarks, Barrister Dozie Obele, the FCT club gold, described the event as “historical because it is the first time Nigerians are gathering under the flag of citizenship with the aim of empowering themselves.”
