Civil Defense sacks officer over murder, warns others

The management of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has sacked one Innocent Oshemi, a personnel of the corps over the alleged murder of a colleague and a Korean Nationale.

Commandant General of the Corps, Abdullahi Gana, while warning other personnel, said on Wednesday at a press conference in Abuja that the murder of a fellow Corps officer and a Korean nationale were unfortunate incident and one which the corps totally condemns.

The korean national, Tea Kun Kara was an employee of Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in Lagos state.

Gana, represented by an Assistant Commandant General (ACG), in charge of Protection of Critical Infrastructure Jonathan Iyogho,  said that Oshemi, a Corps Assistant II, killed Mamman Wuya, Senior Inspector of Corps at the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL).

The CG said that Oshemi was found culpable by the Corps after several investigations and had been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for court prosecution.

“We visited the police when they informed us of a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) coverage of the incident. A staff committee was set up by the corps to look into the case after the CCTV inspection,” he said.

According to him, on April 8, 2019, the corps received a report stating that a personnel shot and killed his colleague alongside a Korean national working in the same premises with the personnel.

“He was disarmed by his colleagues in the office and was later handed over to the police,”he said.

The NSCDC however debunked allegation by Oshemi who claimed he was owed money by the Corps.

“We don’t pay our personnel personally because we are registered under IPPIS and they are in charge of salary payment. Our men working at LADOL are being paid stipends into their accounts,” he said.

Gana said that the incident was an unfortunate one as measures are being taken by the corps to ensure such never repeats itself.

He assured the public that safety of lives and properties was of paramount importance to the corps.
