Civil servants commend Nyako over service scheme

Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state has been commended for reviewing the state’s scheme of service by approving consolidated salaries for deputy permanent secretaries and upgrading directors and deputy directors to levels 17 and 16, respectively.

National President of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama, gave the commendation during the Adamawa state branch Delegate Congress in Yola.
Kaigama also commended the Governor for sponsoring training programme for labour leaders and senior civil servants in the state.

Kaigama urged the governor to look into other problems facing the state civil servants, particularly non-payment of outstanding leave, transport grants, lack of electricity in parts of the state secretariat and non-payment of worker’ salaries for September and October 2011, due to the strike they embarked upon at the time.

“I wish to request that the state government takes necessary measures to pay these outstanding salaries and allowances and improve facility in the state secretariat to make the working environment conducive for greater productivity,” he said.
In his speech, the state branch chairman, Comrade James Pukuma, thanked the state government for its support for Organised Labour in the state and re-iterated the union’s commitment to collaborate with it towards improving workers’ welfare.
In his remarks, the state Controller of Federal Ministry of Labour, Mr B.J Abikoye, tasked the union leaders on regular trade union education of their members to enable them to know their rights and obligations under the prevailing labour laws.
“This will enable you to take appropriate steps to deal with labour related issues as they arise,” he said.
