Cleric thumbs up emergency on Hadejia environmental health

The Chief Imam of Hadejia ancient city, Sheikh Yusuf Abdurrahman Ya’u, has thrown his support behind the state of emergency declared on environmental health by Hadejia local government area of Jigawa state.

Sheikh Abdurrahman, who led hundreds of residents in clearing gutters and dirty areas in Hadejia town, told the gathering of volunteers in the town that, personal hygiene and environmental health were key to addressing major health challenges in the society.

He said Islam has given emphasis on hygiene, citing the Hadith in which prophet Muhammad (PBH) said  “cleanliness is part of our faith in Islam”.

The cleric reminded Hadejia residents that, in Islam, if one does anything that endangers the public health, God would punish him, and if he does anything that promotes public health, Almighty God will also reward him.

He therefore urged people to abide by the culture of personal and environmental hygiene within and outside their compounds for healthy life.

Also the chairman, Hadejia local government council, Muhammad Abdullahi Maikanti, saidthe council was irked with refuse dumped indiscriminately on water ways and other places which caused ailments among children, pregnant women and the general public.
