Climate change: Nigeria at risk of multiple environmental problems – NCF

A Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO), the Nigerian Conservation
Foundation (NCF), said Nigeria was on the verge of multiple environmental
problems.

The NCF Project Officer, Mr Harry Hanson (Jnr), made the disclosure to
newsmen on Tuesday in Nguru, Yobe state, following a ‘Climate Action
Week’ observed by the foundation recently.

Hanson said, “Nigeria is presently facing multiple environmental problems which include species extinction, natural disaster, land degradation, drought and desert encroachment.

Henson also said the Climate Action Week titled “Promoting Nature-based Investment for Climate Resilience in Nigeria” observed recently, was organised to sensitise general public on the importance of Nature-based solutions to Climate Change in Nigeria.

“The one week long awareness events organised in some selected local
communities and cities in the country is aimed at creating the needed
awareness in nature-based solution to combat climate resilience in
Nigeria”.

Malam Ladan Galadima, the Yobe State Chairman NCF Promoter’s Committee
also told newsmen that Climate Change threatened to diminish crop
yields which could affect food security.

This, he said also led to extinction and relocation of many important
spices as their ecosystems changes, lamented

Galadima therefore called on the general public and stakeholders to
join the global campaign of mitigation against global warming.
