A group, Coalition of Civil Societies and Media Executives for Good Governance in Nigeria (COCMEGG), has announced that it would confer on the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.- Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, with the award of “Most Distinguished Chief of Army Staff of the Decade,” at a Grand Red Carpet  Reception/Special Conferment on October 27, this year.

The Coalition disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by its Secretary-General, Comrade James Okoronkwo, adding that the event would hold at Nugget Hotel, Utako, Abuja.
President of the Coalition, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, said “after a critical and painstaking research Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai will be honoured with the prestigious award for having redefined and repositioned the office of the chief of Army Staff like never before.”
Continuing, he said: “His avowed commitment and determination led to the defeat of Boko Haram insurgents and the high morale and espirit-de-corps within the rank and file of the army.

“It is under his watch that the army witnessed a tremendous increase and improvement in the purchase of armaments and accoutrements for soldiers, including the rebranding of the Nigeria Army in line with global best standards and citizens’ satisfaction.”
Aigbegbele called on friends, associates, the diplomatic community, traditional rulers and other well-meaning Nigerians to grace the occasion to celebrate the army and its boss, disclosing that Sir Mike Mbama Okiro would be the chairman of the occasion.
He noted that “this is just the beginning of a greater effort aimed at appreciating those who, on a daily basis, put their lives at risk for the greater good of the country,” stressing that “they deserve our commendation and support.”
