Commendation galore in Osun as NTF coaching course spreads to North-west

The ongoing coaching programme of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) will this weekend engage many coaches in Gusau, Zamfara capital as North-west participants get set to take their turn.

Their training exercise is taking place less than four days after South-west version of the programme was completed in Osogbo, Osun state.
In Osogbo, Participants applauded the two-day National Basic Coaching Workshop which was put together by Osun State Taekwondo Association with participants in attendance from Osun, Ogun, Lagos and Ekiti states.

Giving update on the outcome of outing, NTF Secretary, Mr Kabir Yusuf noted that the aim of the event was to expose grassroots coaches to recent coaching methodologies and the latest world taekwondo rules, so that grassroots athletes can have a more solid foundation.

Reacting on the impact the course made in her coaching career, Mrs Olufunke Oguntuyi from Ogun State said; “I am very inspired and impressed with this kind of workshop that came to the South West that specifically targeted teaching grassroots coaches the developmental aspect of Taekwondo. Honestly, I have learnt so much on how to relate with children and develop them in the sport”

A student-coach from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Buraimo Tofeek and Former Middle Weight Champion who is currently the Captain and Assisting Taekwondo Coach for the Nigeria Police, Ernest Orogbo, and is resident in Osun state hailed the impact of the event.

Impressed by the high quality and impact of the event, the State Commissioner of Social Protection, Sports and Special Needs, Comrade Biyi Ogunlade, who attended the workshop led the Federation’s delegation to the Osun State Government House to meet with the State’s Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and the State Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Yunisa Olalekan Adebisi.

On behalf of the Osun State Government, the Osun State Chief of Staff thanked the Federation for the impact that the event had made on the state and expressed the state’s readiness to support the sport and host a bigger future event.

Responding, Federation President, Margaret Elizabeth Binga thanked the State for its warm hospitality and promised that the Federation would work hand-in-hand with the State Government to bring a huge event to the state to further assist the development of Taekwondo in the state and in the region.
The Federation and all the attendants of the workshops were later treated to a dinner by the Attorney-General and State Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Ajibola Basiru, whose wife Magistrate Habibat Basiru is the State Taekwondo Chairperson.
