Commission ready for Niger LG election – Chairman

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) chairman, Alhaji  Aminu Baba, has said the commission was ready to conduct  the  forthcoming local government elections in the state.

Baba said this during a meeting with the Commissioner of Police and 25 Divisional Police officers in the state, at the Police Officers Mess, Minna, Thursday.

Baba, who was represented by Alhaji Yakuwu Mohammad, the Commissioner, Security and Operation of the body, announced that the local government election would hold on Sept 30.

He said that the commission had taken measures as well as given all the political parties a level playing ground to ensure a credible election.

The chairman said that all the materials needed for the conduct of the election had been made available.

He said the election would be conducted in the 25 local government areas of the state.

Speaking earlier, the commissioner of police, Alhaji Usman Adamu, told the gathering that the police were ready to provide security during and after the election across the 25 local government areas.

He called on leaders of political parties to preach political tolerance and understanding to their supporters.

He warned that the police and other security agencies would not tolerate violence and thuggery before, during and after the election.

He said that the police would remain proactive and would not rest on their oars in the task of providing peaceful political atmosphere for the smooth implementation of the electoral process without threats to lives and property. (NAN)
