Commissioner to Nigerians: Work for peace or face more unpleasant challenges

A federal commissioner representing North-central at the National Population Commission (NPC), Barr Patricia Kupchi Iyanya, has enjoined Nigerians of all creed to work assiduously for peace and corporate unity if Nigeria will remain an indivisible entity.

The woman technocrat made the statement at the just concluded Merit Time International first phase public lecture and awards organised to celebrate distinguished Nigerians at the Merit House, Maitama, Abuja over the weekend.

Barr Kupchi Iyanya while speaking against the background of the current security challenges in the country reasoned that the development required the concerted effort of every Nigerian to ensure the country is rescued from the quagmire.

She said, “President Muhammadu Buhari as the leader cannot be everywhere and cannot do everything by himself. Nigerians, whether Christians or Muslims, have a duty to be on guard, to ensure that things do not degenerate to the level where we can no longer move freely. What is happening across the country leaves much to be desired.”

She called on the federal government to ensure even development of the six geopolitical zones in order to minimise tension and allow for the spirit of patriotism and belonging.

National coordinator of Merit Times International Awards, Mr. Sunday Okwu Ojor pledged to continue to promote national unity and productivity through his media platform.

Prominent Nigerians, who distinguished themselves from all walks of life were honoured with productivity awards at the event.

The event observed a minute silence for former board chairman of Merit Times International, Chief Augustine Okafor, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary, who died was laid to rest on Friday the 16th of April, 2021. He hailed from Ogwashi-Uku, Delta state South-South Nigeria.
