The School Based Management Committee ( SBMC) of Ja’en Special School in Gwale local government area in Kano says it has spent over N1 million on renovation of classrooms and purchase of learning materials.
The chairman of the committee, Alhaji Ado Ja’en, disclosed this while conducting round table Media Dialogue team on School-Based Management Committee organised by the UNICEF.
Ja-en said the measure was part of the committee’s contribution toward providing a conducive learning atmosphere to achieve academic excellence in the school.
He said that about N113,000 was spent on the landscaping of the school’s compound; N44,000 was spent on providing school uniforms and learning materials for 34 pupils and N84,000 was spent on the repairs of broken down desks and chairs.
He also said that about N500,000 was spent on the construction of two boreholes within the school’s premises, which had 10,000-litre capacity overhead tank for the pupils’ use.
The chairman said that one of the bore holes was being used for car wash and watering of garden for commercial purposes.
“We are realising about N45,000 monthly to support basic needs of our school for optimal performances,” he said.
He added that the committee would continue to partner with the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and others stakeholders within the committee to provide the basic needs of the school.
Leader of the team, Malam Nasiru Awal, said the purpose of the visit was to assess what the committee was doing in enhancing teaching and learning experiences and commended the body for its efforts in that direction.
