Kaduna: Communities in 4 LGs take ownership of govt projects


Communities in Jaba, Zango Kataf, Jema’a and Kagarko local government areas of Kaduna state have stated their commitment to take ownership of government projects in their domain, and monitor the projects to ensure quality service delivery. 


They also urged for more participatory contracting by involving the traditional rulers, women and youth in project to enable them monitor, assess and ensure quality work that would last for the people.  
Speaking in a communiqué issued after a Town Hall meeting on promoting the use of open contracting data organised by PPDC Project Watch in Kwoi, Jaba local government area of Kaduna state, the citizens said they were ready to support government projects in their area for effective service delivery. 


The communique, which was jointly signed by Malam Adamu M. Jarmai (Jema’a LGA), Mr Njim Stephen (Zango Kataf LGA), Mr Jock Ahmadu (Kagarko LGA) and Mrs Nafisah Bello (Jaba LGA) reads, “the meeting resolves as follows, that we appreciates all that have been discussed about monitoring of government project. 
“That we would monitor projects around Jaba, Jema’a, Zango Kataf and Kagarko LGAs that if we have any complain we would take it to the right quarters to be addressed. That we should partner NOA and media to deepen the information on contract monitoring and open contracting. 
“That we would form a committee to go round other places within Jaba, Kagarko, Zango Kataf and Jema’a LGAs and look at the challenges and take necessary action for quality execution of contracts. 


“That traditional rulers should be involved in contract monitoring and assessing. That host communities should be involved in contract monitoring, to assess the quality and give appropriate feedback to government. This can be made possible when government provides contract information to the public.”
