Consider North-east for important positions, group tells Gbajabiamila

A political group known as ‘Good Governance Initiative Coalition’ has appealed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila to consider appointing elected members from the North east to head vital committees in the house.

Chairman of the coalition, Barrister Hussaini Saraki who made the appeal at a press conference in Bauchi Tuesday said the purpose of the conference was to draw the attention of Speaker Gbajabiamila to the need to give maximum consideration to the North east region that gave maximum support to the ruling party in the last elections.

“The region is far left behind among its other counterparts, socially, politically, economically and educationally,” he alleged.

Saraki said the speaker needs to give every region a sense of belonging so that his tenure would be rancour free.

“We advise that in order to have the leadership of the committees well spread, we suggest that states that do not have principal officers in the House be given more priority in the appointment of chairmanship of the House committees, “he said.
