Contempt: Commissioner, Isiguzo, others risk jail over Imo NUJ election

The Commissioner for Information in Imo State, Hon Declan Mbadiwe Emelumba, National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo and those who conducted, supported and took part in last Saturday’s factional Imo NUJ Election stand the risk of being jailed by the National Industrial Court, Owerri Division when it resumes in a few days’ time.

The court had few months ago stopped an election of a factional Imo NUJ Council until a subsisting court case on an inconclusive election involving the entire Imo NUJ which three candidates had emerged unopposed was determined.

Blueprint correspondent gathered that the other Imo NUJ faction occupying the old secretariat on Portharcourt road Owerri are compiling names of those who took part in the purported election with the intention of going back to court to get judgement.

Recall that notice for the November 19, 2022 election was given under 24 hours, precisely last Friday November 18, the same period Isiguzo arrived Owerri for the INEC/ NUJ workshop on the 2023 elections.
