Contempt: Kano antigraft czar apologises over remarks

Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and AntiCorruption Commission, Alhaji Muhuyi Magaji RiminGado yesterday apologised to the state High Court Judge, Justice Mohammed Yahaya, over disparaging remarks he made recently.
Tendering the apology at a press briefing, Rimin-Gado said the recent altercation had soured the relationship between the Judiciary and the Commission, noting that “the judiciary does not need anticorruption Commission for its survival but the Commission needs the judiciary to operate and above all the society needs both for development.” He said, “On this note, in the interest of peace and stability, I wish to without prejudice to power and function of this Commission, apologise to the judiciary and any other person that may have been offended by my statements.
“Though not excusable, all that was credited to me was not out of disrespect to the judiciary but due to the honest and ardent need to ensure that justice is meted out.
All that has happened is highly regretted and I take full responsibility of my action,” he posited.
I wish to also use this medium to commend the legislature for enacting the law to fight corruption and the executive for the enabling environment given to the Commission to operate.
We also call upon the judicial arm of the government in the interest of the State to preserve and support the Commission to serve the purpose of its mandate,” he stressed.
He said, “Fighting corruption is not a one man business.
I therefore, enjoined all to join hands with the Commission in fighting the menace of corruption.”
