Contractor in court for allegedly blocking debtor’s gate with family

A contractor, Austine Ojo, who allegedly blocked his debtor’s gate, stopping workers from going in, on Friday appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 6.

The police charged Ojo, who resides at No 57, Flat A, Suncity Estate, Abuja, with three counts of disturbance of public peace, inciting disturbance and constituting public nuisance.

The Prosecution counsel, Chijoke Ogezie, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 6.

He said that the complainant, Mr Christopher Obijiofor, in a petition to the AIG Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja reported the matter for investigation.

According to Ogezie, the defendant at about 6.48 a.m. spread his blanket and laid down at the entrance of Good Homes Ltd., with his wife and children.

He said the action of the defendant prevented workers from gaining access to their offices.

The counsel further alleged the defendant refused to leave the entrance, insisting that the management of the company must pay him.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 113,114 and 178 of Penal Code.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Linda Chidama admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.

She adjourned the matter until Sept. 16 for hearing.
