Cop kills businessman, shoots another in Ibadan

A policeman has been arrested in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, for shooting a 32-year-old businessman identified as Yemi Ajayi to death on Thursday at Iwo road area of the town.

It was learnt that the policeman was attached to the testing ground station of Agodi area command of the police command.

An eyewitness said the trigger-happy policeman was among the police team from the Testing ground police area command that arrived area in an Oyo state coloured branded Nisan Micra car for their routine patrol of the axis

The policemen were reported to have on sighting the Toyota Camry conveying Yemi and his brother, Kayode Atanda, ordered the car to stop for check.

According to the eyewitness, while the driver of the Toyota Camry was looking for a convenient place to park, a police officer reportedly jumped at the driver, started dragging the steering with him, asking him to alight.

It was at this juncture the policeman reportedly shot at the driver with the bullet hitting him in one of his arms before the bullet again hit Yemi who was sitting beside the driver.

Speaking on Yemi’s murder, his elder brother identified as Sola Ajayi said on hearing of the incident, the family rushed down to the testing ground police station to confirm.

He said it was only their vehicle that was at the station, saying it was only Kayode Atanda, our cousin that was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UCH) for treatment that we met in the hospital.

The state police public relations officer, SP Lawrence Fadeyi, confirmed the incident, saying “investigation into the matter is ongoing.”
