Coronavirus: In Ebonyi, Umahi bans Okada, tightens border movement

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state, Saturday ordered immediate ban of the movement of motorcycle also known as Okada in the state.

The governor during a live broadcast in his office, at the new  government house Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital said the ban would take effect from Saturday April 11, 2020.

He said the commercial motorcyclists illegally carry people from the  boundary areas into the state, a measure that violate government order on lockdown.

Umahi then, warned that anybody found violating the law would be punished by the security agencies.

He said, ” I have noted with dismay how misguided elements hire Okada to enter Ebonyi state through track roads which contravenes the COVID-19 Law 2020, government therefore order immediate ban of the use of  motorcycles (Okada) in Ebonyi state.

“This directive is without exception and the ban is an all-time ban across the state.”

Umahi announced that Esther Sunday service would be allowed to hold.

The governor also ordered arrest of Traditional rulers and his cabinets from Ngbo west in Ohaukwu local government area for the killing of a Naval officer in the area till the suspected killers are found.

He also ordered suspension of the coordinator of Ikwo East development center and other legislative aides for the killing of a 70-year old woman from Amana, Ezza south local government area till the perpetrators of the act are discovered.
