Coronavirus: Osun govt inaugurates c’ttee on virus

The Osun state government Friday inaugurated a 15-member committee to monitor and checkmate coronavirus in the state.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Benedict Alabi, at the Ministry of Health, said the urgent step became necessary because of the case of the virus detected in Lagos.

He charged the committee to immediately swing into action as done in the case of Lassa fever, noting that the state government was able to curtail Lassa fever because of the urgent step.

Oyetola, who said his administration was committed to saving lives, promised that he would not play with anything that had to do with good living of the people of the state.

Also speaking, the special adviser on public health, Pharm. Siji Olamiju, urged the residents to support the government by calling their attention to any suspected case.

He assured that necessary measures have been put in place to checkmate the virus, advising residence to go about their business without fear.

According to him, the committee headed by Dr. Gbenga Adepoju of the public health care unit, also have members from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECHTH) and Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH).

He said the World Health Organisation, Nigeria Police, pharmaceutical and veterinary doctors were also represented in the committee.
