A Corporal in the Nigeria Police Force, Ayodele Godwin has petitioned the Senate over outright neglect and disregard by police authority to injury he sustained at his duty post in Edo state.
A petition addressed to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki by counsel to the aggrieved policeman which was obtained by our correspondent, showed that on 2nd day of June 2017, Ayodele and three other policemen namely; Inspr. Goodluck Osemwenyaru, Sgt Ikponmwosa Teslyne and Sgt Osaigbovo Elvis were drafted to a duty post along Benin-Auchi road, a volatile area at Okuo village to combat the menace of kidnapping believed to be perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen there.
The petitioner explained that at the duty post, a black Toyota Corolla car, with registration No. ABC 650 AB skidded off the road and ran into our client and one of the officers, Sgt Ikponmwosa Teslyne, as a result of the accident, was unconscious for two days before his resuscitation.
But the petitioner (Ayodele), said though he had regained consciousness, his leg, from kneel to the ankle, was severely damaged and has remained in the hospital since the time of the tragic incident.
They lamented on his behalf that the Nigeria police, which is fully aware of his pathetic situation, had since then abandoned him.
The petition reads in part: “Our client has been neglected by the police authority for over five months. The police authority is fully aware that, the injury he sustained in the course of an official duty is life threatening, yet refused to identify with him in anyway.
“He is an illustrious son of Imoga village, Akoko Edo local government area of Edo state and a police officer in the rank of Corporal with Force N0: 456694 attached to anti-kidnapping and cyber crime unit, Edo state Police Command, Benin City,” it satated.
