The Administrator, National Judicial Institute, Justice Rozaline Bozimo, Monday, warned that Corruption can threaten the integrity of the judiciary, enjoining judiciary workers to shun the scourge in all its ramifications.
Bozimo stated this while delivering a welcome address at the opening ceremony of the Virtual National Workshop for Directors of Finance, Internal Auditors and other Financial Officers of the Judiciary held in Abuja.
Represented by the Institute Secretary, Abubakar Umar Maidama, the administrator noted that corruption places a heavy burden on the society, adding that it has a toxic effect on the fair and efficient functioning of the Judiciary.
As public officials, the administrator reminded participants that they are entrusted with very important administrative functions of the Judiciary, saying that onus was on them to be transparent and shun all manners of unmanageable practices.
“Corruption can threaten the integrity of the Judiciary which invariably can undermine citizens’ faith in the administration of justice.
“As Financial officers in the Judiciary, it is expected that you ensure due process in the procurement of goods and services as well as award of contracts and also maintain up to date records in line with relevant financial regulations,” he said.
While urging participants to imbibe the tenets and dictates of the Code of Conduct for Court Employees, Bozimo lauded the the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad for granting the Institute the authorisation to organise the workshop.
In a brief speech, a guest speaker, Mrs Rashidatu Okoduwa, urged participants at the end of the workshop to demonstrate deeper understanding of what constitutes corruption and appreciates its far reaching impacts.
