‘Corruption fight can only succeed through cooperation’

The Christian Fellowship and Care Foundation (CFCF) has said only cooperation among individuals can wipe out corruption in the society.

In a welcome address presented at a press conference to mark the 2022 Anti-Corruotion Day at the Imo NUJ secretariat, Portharcourt Road, Owerri, Friday, the campaign manager of CFCF, Cliton Ezeigwe, made it clear that it is “only through cooperation that the negative impact of corruption can be overcome and a safer, more sustainable societies achieved.”

He said this year’s theme for the Anti-Corruption Day “Uniting the World Against Corruption,” also marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations’ Convention Against Corruption (UNCAL), adding that at the core of this year’s theme is the belief that tackling corruption is the right and responsibility of every person, no matter who you are or where you are from.

He further said that “the 2022 International Anti-Corruption Day seeks to highlight the crucial link between anti-corruption and peace, security and development.”

Ezeigwe described “corruption as a major challenge that is hindering the growth and development of Nigeria, hence it is consistently ranked as one of the most corrupt countries in the world as evidenced by several Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index(CPI) report.”

He stated that the Anti-Corruption Day is part of African Network for Empowerment and Economic Jucstice (ANEEJ) and Strenghtening Civil Advocacy and Local Engagement (Scale) project tagged Enhancing Anti-Corruption and Social Inclusion Reform Initiatives In Nigeria. He added that the ANEEJ is implementing the SCALE project as anchor for the Anti-Corruption cluster of Day is part of African Network for Empowerment and Economic Jucstice (ANEEJ) and Strenghtening Civil Advocacy and Local Engagement (Scale) project tagged Enhancing Anti-Corruption and Social Inclusion Reform Initiatives In Nigeria. He added that the ANEEJ is implementing the SCALE project as anchor for the Anti-Corruption cluster of 8 CSO partners under the SCALE project to which the Christian Fellowship and Care Foundation is a cluster organisation in Imo state. He also said that the foundation is working with ANEEJ to implement the project to promote and engage in Anti-Corruption and inclusion policy reforms through multi-stakeholder initiatives at both national and sub-national levels in Nigeria, a well as promote reforms in the development commissions established by federal and state government to develop Niger Delta region.
