Corruption killing Nigeria – Ganduje

The Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has noted that corruption “is killing Nigeria, and the country will not attain development with the level of corruption gaining ground in low and high places.”

Ganduje stated this Friday at the inauguration the state Anti Corruption Strategy Steering Committee members.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, said the committee was crucial in the fight against corruption across the state.

“The committee can entertain complaints from the public and resolve them amicably and at the same time fight corruption which has become endemic in people’s minds. The committee should open its doors to the public to lodge their complaints; it is when people lodge their complaints that the necessary actions would be taken in digging deep into the root of the matter. People should not be reticent in as much as such complaints are genuine and not anchored on trivialities.

“The state government has done a lot to ensure that the Commission is brought back to lime-light. We are fighting the battle against corruption holistically as we have no sacred cow. The menace of corruption is a hydra-headed monster which must be fought to a logical conclusion,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of the state Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission, who is also the chairman of the Steering Committee, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, said establishing the anti-corruption steering committee “is part of the government’s commitment towards ensuring accountability in governance.”

“Monitoring and Evaluation Committee will also feature members of the civil society organisation, the media, and traditional leaders among others,” he said.
