Corruption trackers want Tinubu to be decisive, ruthless

A non-governmental organisation, The Corruption Trackers Initiatives (TCTI), has called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive and ruthless actions against corruption and corrupt practices.

The organisation said  as corruption trackers, it carried out investigations on corrupt activities among Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) during the just concluded transition period, based on five parameters: corruption; accountability; value for money, prudence and transparency, in which five ministries and 17 departments and agencies were found wanting on corrupt practices.

Though it refused to name the guilty departments and agencies, the trackers said the rot is huge and the new government must start cleaning it immediately.

Addressing the media in Kaduna Wednesday, the executive director of the organisation, Malam Hamza Abideen, said: “President Bola Tinubu needs to be decisive and ruthless on corruption if he wants to succeed. We carried out investigations on corrupt activities among federal ministries, departments and agencies. Five ministries; aviation, mines and power, petroleum resources and education were found wanting. Many of them were involved in last minute procurements, auctioning and supply that did not follow the due process.

“There are loads of corrupt activities perpetrated by individuals in some agencies under these ministries. We would not give their names. President Tinubu needed to take ruthless actions against corruption, as some individuals are so rich today that if the president does not take decisive actions against corruption, they can destabilise this country. “

He urged the immediate past governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle, to provide evidence of the $2 million bribe demanded from him by the EFCC chairman, Malam AbdulRasheed Bawa, for proper investigation, noting that such claims need to be fully investigated and verified.
