Council boss berates staff over poor work ethics

Disturbed by the poor attitude of work being exhibited by staff of Kuje area council, the Chairman, Hon. Ishaku Shaban Tete, has read the riot act to them, warning that his administration will not condone the lack of dedication to duty on the part of the council staff.
The chairman, who gave the warning at a recent parley with the staff, said it had become necessary to put a stop at the workers persistent and unserious behaviour, which he noted, had become mandatory.
According to him, the civil service rule is that work commences at 8am prompt, on work days; so office duties should be done with all seriousness “because as you take from government, you are also expected to give back in return, which brings out the beauty of the job.”
Tete stressed that “not coming to office promptly goes a long way in affecting files that are in need of urgent attention, so, you have to be very serious by justifying what you are collecting.”
Speaking, the Head of Administration in the council, Barrister Muhammed Musa Loko, corroborated the chairman’s observation and declared that “we have fallen short of our expectation,” but promised that “henceforth, there will be a change of attitude to work.”
On his part, the chairman, Nigeria Union Local government Employees (NULGE), Kuje branch, Mr. Ibrahim A. Kabir, said “promotion, training, on the job training, in-house training, seminars and workshops are vital mechanisms for effective administration and called for attention in this area, he further encouraged staff, especially the junior cadre to apply for higher certificates to help widen their horizon.”
He further promised that the persistent epileptic power supply in the council would soon become a thing of the past, saying that measures had been put in place to solve the problem.
