Court remands 2 in Minna for linking Abubakar with bandits’ helicopter

The Federal High Court sitting in Minna Niger state Wednesday remanded two persons accused of publishing injurious statement on social media against former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar, linking him with ownership of a Chooper suspected to be supplying  arms to bandits  in the state. 


The accused suspects, Abdulkareem Ajibola and Anas Umar were charged under  section 24(1B) of the Cyber crime law.


The police prosecutor,  Jude Akaeze  prayed  for adjournment to enable him present witnesses to prove allegations against the defendants.


However defending counsel, Abdulkareem Abubakar moved oral motion for bail arguing that the accused  persons  have already stayed for one month in the correctional center and have also  pleaded not guilty to the four charges against them.


In a ruling,  Justice Emeka Nwite adviced the defending counsel to do the needful in applying for bail and adjourned to 26th July, 2021 to commence trail ordering that the accused  persons should be remanded in correctional center.


The accused persons had allegedly published and circulated on social media using their galaxy smartphone that Former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar was the owner of a helicopter supplying arms and other logistics to bandits perpetuating their acts in Niger state.
