Court remands 3 for conspiracy, theft

A Senior Magistrate’s Court 1 sitting in Mararaba, has ordered that three men charged with criminal conspiracy and theft be remanded in Keffi prison.
The accused are Shaibu Lawal, 23 and Monday Stephen, 33, both of Angwan Gwari, Mararaba, and Ikechukwu Asogwa of Aku Village, Mararaba.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Aliyu Mohammed, told the court that the matter was reported by Dominic Ogwuche of New Karu, at ‘A’ Division Police Station, Mararaba, on April 2, 2014.
Mohammed said that on the same date, while Dominic’s brother, Innocent Ogwuche, was going from Ado to Mararaba, when his car broke down and he asked the accused persons to help him push the car to where he could get a mechanic.

The prosecutor said that in the process, the accused conspired and stole Innocent’s bag containing some valuable items including a laptop valued at N75,000, an international passport and international driving licence, one Sony Ericsson handset valued N95,000 and other documents.
Mohammed said the accused persons’ offence contravened sections 97 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not guilty, and the Senior Magistrate, Mr Jeremiah Danladi, ordered that they be remanded in prison.
He adjourned the case until April 9 for continuation of hearing.
