Court remands 3 for gang-raping minor

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered the remand of the three men in prison custody, for allegedly gang-raping a fourteen-year-old girl.

The trio, Samuel Farotimi (27), Sunday Ajimoko (40) and Sunday Ilugbo (30), were accused of allegedly taking turns to sexually assault the girl (name withheld).

The accused, whose addresses were not given, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and rape.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 9pm on January 29, at Odo Ado area of Ado-Ekiti.

He said the accused conspired among themselves and raped the victim, while she was returning from an errand.

The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 33 and 31 (2) of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti state Cap C7.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Dolapo Akosile, in her ruling, ordered the remand of the three men in prison custody pending receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The court adjourned the case till March 14, for mentioning.
