Court remands 6 for ‘money ritual’ in Osun


A magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state, Thursday, ordered the remand of six men in prison for allegedly using a corpse flesh for money ritual.


The defendants are: Ogunwole Lukman (20), Jimoh Saheed (29), Ogunlola Isiaka (41), Olawale Sodiq (21), Lukman Oyeyemi (40) and Muidini Akanji (30). 


The police prosecutor, Mr Idoko John, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged crime on September 20,  2020 at about 10:30am at Dagbolu, Oba road, Osogbo.


The prosecution alleged that the purported crime contravened the provision of sections 516, 430 and 242(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.II laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2002.


However, they pleaded not guilty to the three count charges of unlawful possession of human flesh and misconduct in regard to corpses, intent to use human flesh for money ritual and improper or indecent interference with a dead body. 


Their Counsels, Toafeek Ibukun and Tunbosun Oladipupo, urged the court to grant them bail pending the determination of the matter by the court. 


But, Magistrate Ishola Omisade ordered that the defendants be remanded in Ilesa correctional center and adjourned the matter to September 30 for ruling on bail application.
