Court remands labourer for assault

A 22-year-old labourer, James Atom, has been remanded in prison by a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, in Nasarawa State.

Presiding judge, Mr. Albert Maga, gave the remand order after Atom, who is standing trial for assaulting a woman, pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of causing hurt to the lady.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Mr. Friday Adaji, had told the court that the accused attacked and beat up one Miss Joy Adarko of Kabayi, Mararaba, at about on February 25, 2014.

Adaji alleged that the accused attacked the lady at her shop located at “Sharp Corner” without provocation and beat her up, during which she sustained serious internal injuries.

He objected to the bail of the accused on the grounds that the victim of the assault was still receiving treatment at the hospital.
The accused pleaded guilty but told the court that Adarko was his girl friend and that they had little misunderstanding which resulted to argument.
Mega adjourned the case to March 6, 2014.
