Court remands man for attempted murder

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Akure has ordered the remand of Seun Ogunlade, 21, in Olokuta Prison in Akure over alleged attempted murder of a man at a ward congress.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Iretiolu Dada, ordered the remanded pending receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the state Ministry of Justice.

Dada, who did not take the plea of the accused, adjourned the case till May 28 for mention.
Ogunlade is facing a two-count charge of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearm.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Ibrahim, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 9, 2014, at 4:30pm at Leo Street in Akure metropolis.

Ibrahim said the accused attempted to kill one Adebayo Gbenga by shooting at him with a pistol during the All Peoples Congress ward congress in Akure.
The prosecutor said that when the accused was apprehended, he could not give a satisfactory explanation of how he came about the gun in his possession.
The offences, he said, contravened Section 320 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006 and Section 28(1)(a)(b) of the Firearm Act Cap146 Vol.IX Laws of the Federation of Nigeria,1990.
