Court remands man for ‘raping’ minor in Osun


A magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state, Thursday remanded a 30-year-old man, AbdurRasaq Sodiq, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl. 


The police prosecutor, Mr. Adeoye Kayode, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged crime on September 11, 2020 at about 8:00pm at Sabo Area, Osogbo.


The prosecution alleged that the defendant indecently assaulted one Olajide Rukayat by having unlawful canal knowledge of her and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 360 of the criminal code Cap 34 Vol.II, laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2002.


The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him by the police.


His counsel, Mr Okobe Najite, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, promising that he would stand his trial and will not jump bail. 


But, the Magistrate, Mr Opeyemi Badmus, ordered that the defendant be remanded in correctional center and he adjourned the case till October 14, 2020 for hearing and consideration of bail.
