Court remands man over assault on ex-Niger HoS

A magistrate’s court in Minna has remanded a man in prison custody over attack on former Niger state Head of Service, Barr Abbas Bello.
The suspect, Abubakar Sadiq, was charged at the court under section 397 (b) of the penal code.
The accused was said to have attacked Bello during which he also broke the back windscreen of his car.
He was also accused of using foul language, inciting the public and criminal intimidation on the former Head of Service, contrary to section 114, 399, 392 and 327 of the penal code.
The prosecutor, Abdullahi Maiyaki said the offence was not bailable under section 397 (b) of the penal code, saying the case was first reported at the GRA police station, Minna before the accused was arrested.
The defendant, Abubakar Sadiq, however pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.
The Magistrate Court Judge, Hassan Mohammed then ordered that the suspect be reminded in prison custody and adjourned the case to the 18th of this month when for further hearing.
